[ap-intact] INFO: Pakistan fisherfolk tired of bribes to police, hold protest

Small-scale fishermen of Gizri, a neighborhood in Karachi, Pakistan, recently staged a protest against police officials who allegedly demand bribes in return for letting them fish. The fishermen claimed that police officials regularly ask for ‘chai paani’ from them and added that their fishing nets are confiscated if they do not comply. More than 200 fishermen from Gizri, Shireen Jinnah Colony, and Keamari fish here. For most, fishing is their only source of income and few venture into the deep sea.
