Rule of law feeble, courts corrupt, Suu Kyi committee finds

The rule of law has a feeble and narrow reach in Myanmar, and the country’s courts are guided by corruption rather legislation, Lower House MP Thura Aung Ko told Parliament on September 30. He made the comments during debate over a report compiled by the Lower House’s Rule of Law, Stability and Peace Committee, which is chaired by MP Aung San Suu Kyi. The report said the committee had received more than 7,000 complaints in its first year of operation.
