Fewer Filipinos give bribes to gov’t execs – poll

Fewer Filipino families give bribes or “grease money” to government officials and they do so usually only after being asked to, a 2013 survey commissioned by the Office of the Ombudsman shows. Based on the survey, one out of every 20 families or five percent had at least one encounter with a bribe taker in government. The figure represented a decline from 2010 figures – two of every 20 families. The 2013 National Household Survey on Experience with Corruption in the Philippines measured respondents’ actual experiences with small-scale corruption, particularly bribery.
