Flawed mining contracts causes corruption in Afghanistan

The transfer of mining contracts from one hand to another and merging of the exploration and excavation process of natural reservoirs are fueling corruption in the mining sector, economic and mining experts said. The concerns have been raised after the Lower House of parliament approved the new mining draft. The draft is currently debated by Upper House. Some civil society organizations and natural resources watchdogs were also concern about the move of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum to jointly push forward the exploration and excavation process and let the mining contract go from one hand to another.
