"Sustainable Anti-Corruption Reform in SIDS" Side Event, Small Island Developing States Conference - Apia, Samoa (1pm, 1 September 2014)

[Facilitator's note: Thank you to Tony Prescott, Annika Wythes, Isikeli Valemei, Luisa Senibulu, and Samita Singh of the joint UNDP-UNODC Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption Project, for sharing this information.]

On the margins of the upcoming International Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Conference in Samoa, UNODC and UNDP will be hosting a side event to discuss 'sustainable anti-corruption reform in SIDS' at 1pm on 1 September 2014. Specific issues to be addressed will include affordability, capability, accountability, access ("going beyond the main island"), competing priorities, supplementation and the "smallness" of SIDS.

This side event will be opened by the UNODC Executive Director, Mr. Yury Fedotov, and chaired by the UNODC Regional Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Mr. Jeremy Douglas. The event will consist of presentations from UNDP on sustainable anti-corruption reform, UNODC on UNCAC as a framework for SIDS, and SIDS representatives on their country-specific challenges and context. We will then encourage participants to take the floor to share their experiences and enrich the discussion.

Please spread the word and invite your colleagues and counterparts, who will be participating in the SIDS Conference, to attend.

We would welcome their participation!

Kindly find attached a factsheet on the event for dissemination.
